Ways to a healthy Heart

Heart is a fist sized organ that is primarily responsible for pumping blood and distributing oxygen and nutrients throughout the body. It is truly the tiny powerhouse of our body. 

The question is - How well do we take care of our tiny powerhouse ?  Are we making enough efforts to fight cardiovascular diseases and keep our heart healthy?

A healthy diet and lifestyle are the simple ways to keep heart healthy. Simple changes in your daily routine can help.

1) Eat fruits , vegetables and whole grains

Vegetables are important sources of many nutrients, including potassium, dietary fiber, vitamin A, and vitamin C. They are also low in calories. Increase intake of fresh fruits , vegetables and whole grains in your diet .

2) Regular exercise

Regular physical activity can improve your muscle strength and boost your endurance.It helps in weight control and combats health conditions and diseases.Include any form of exercise like running, walking, yoga or  dancing in your daily routine.

3) Increase intake of fish rich in omega-3

Fish is a strong source of heart-helping omega-3 fatty acids and protein . People who have heart disease, or are at risk of developing it, are recommended to increase their intake of omega-3s by eating fish such as  salmon, mackerel, herring, lake trout, sardines at least twice per week.This lowers the risk of abnormal heartbeats and slow the growth of plaque in the arteries.

4) Quit Smoking

Cigarette smokers have a higher risk of developing cardiovascular disease.The first step to quitting smoking is to understand the risks and health effects related to smoking. It can cause some llife-threatening conditions like heart disease, breathing problems, lung cancer and kidney cancer .

 

These small changes in your lifestyle and diet can make a big difference in your health and life.
